Rhodes POV:

After that day, Roxy has started coming to our practice regularly, which is awesome for me, being that I don't get to see her that often.  Balancing work at the talent agency and being in the band was hard enough without having to think about Roxy. Not to mention she has been watching Zane a lot. I wonder if she likes him. I think that they could be really good friends. I let out a heavy sigh, opened my eyes, and sat up with a yawn to get ready for work. Why do I feel jealous when I think about that?

I walked into the bathroom, changed and left my apartment to walk the three blocks to work. I have to focus. Today, they are introducing me to the new singer I will be managing for the next month, which means I will have to meet with my boss.

The building I worked in was very large. And I worked on the tenth floor, the same floor as my boss. I stepped into the small elevator and began the ascent up to my boss's office.  After stepping out of the elevator, I was greeted by a spacious white hallway with various mahogany doors, all spaced out evenly over the space. At the end of the hallway was my boss's office, and I entered silently. My boss was an interesting woman. She was very demanding. And the only thing I knew about her was that she had a son.

"And I'm telling you, if you don't meet the deadline on your new album, we are cutting it!" she looked at me and made a swift motion with her wrist, ushering me to sit down.
"You have to the end of the month. No exceptions!" She hung up the phone loudly before turning her attention to me. "Sorry about that. The new talent will be here soon, let me go get her."

"Yes ma'am," I said as my boss stood up to leave. I let out a sigh. I hated getting new
singers to manage.  It always took way too long. I pulled out my phone to text Zane.

'Hey. We still meeting up for a jam session tonight?'

I waited, hoping for Zane to answer quickly.

     'Yeah, sure.'

I smiled with relief. I sent back another message:

'Kay, come to my place around 8, see you then!'

It had been a while since I had got to be with Zane alone. If I remember correctly, we haven't seen each other since the night we both got really drunk. It will be good to see him again. I smiled to myself before returning my phone to my pocket as my boss walked in, followed by a shy looking girl.

Zane's POV:

I was standing outside of Rhodes apartment, bass case in hand.  Rhodes opened the door before I even got a chance to knock and greeted me with his usual smile.

"Come on in!" Rhodes said, his eyes shining like amber.  I stepped inside the large apartment and looked around. The last time I was here Rhodes had kissed me. And since then everything has changed. He has a girlfriend, I am pretty sure she hates me. Ever since Roxy started coming to our practices, she would glare at me whenever I glanced at Rhodes.

"So, what's up? I haven't seen you in a while." Rhodes looked over his shoulder at me. I laughed.

"Dude, you saw me three days ago at band practice!" He turned around, his face a light red.

"W-well it's not my fault you have been sort of distant lately!" Rhodes mumbled. I looked away from Rhodes, trying to hide my emotions, which always showed too easily. I pulled out my base, sat down, and started strumming the strings gently.

"Well, sorry about that." I said with a shrug. I looked up to see Rhodes holding an acoustic guitar.

"You intend to play our band's music with that?" I scoffed. Rhodes looked up and chuckled.
"No, I was hoping that we could do a jam session where we make up our own stuff."

"Sure" I chucked at how childish Rhodes could be.

Rhodes played a soft chord, and I brought in a slow, soft arpeggio to follow steed underneath. Just then, Rhodes sped it up and the song became more intense and urgent. I changed to match.

"Hm… Not bad, but let's see if you can follow this!" Rhodes started thrashing out a complicated guitar solo. I followed in with a constant, yet intense bass line. Just then, the solo came to an end and I looked up to see Rhodes staring at me, his face soft as he smiled kindly. I felt my face heat up before I quickly looked back down at my bass. I felt a hand touch my head softly.

"How did we get so lucky to get such a good bass player?" Rhodes said before gripping my bare shoulder. His hands were so warm. But they were not soft due to the calluses on his hands from playing guitar.

Warm, yet rough.

Rhodes hand slide off my shoulder slowly as there was a loud knock at his apartment door.
"Coming!" Rhodes shouted before walking off. I let out a soft gasp after I saw who had joined the room.

It was Roxy.

She looked at me with a smile.

"Why, hello there Zane!" Roxy said, voice dripping with what felt like a sweet poison.
"I'll go get a couple beers, Roxy, you can wait here with Zane." Rhodes said, walking off.
No. Anything but that. I tried my best to keep from sighing.

Roxy sat down next to me and looked at my bass before touching it gently.

"How pretty…" she said.

"Thanks." I said, distaste coloring my voice. Why is she so close to me?

"You know Zane," Roxy began, her voice low as she slowly crept up to me and caressed my shoulder, "we should get along, for the sake of Rhodes. I don't want someone like you ruining our relationship." Again with that sickeningly sweet voice.  Roxy leaned in close to me, and I could feel her warm breath on my ear.

"Besides, I have been watching you the last couple of weeks." She said, biting my ear gently. "and let me tell you… Rhodes will never belong to you. He is m-i-n-e." She let out a soft giggle before sitting back, her violet eyes glowing as she winked at me.

"But if you want me to, I can tell you how good he is in bed~~!" This time she looked as if she radiated evil. But, that look disappeared as soon as Rhodes re-entered the room.

"Did you guys have a nice little chat?" Rhodes said with a smile as he set down three beers.

"Oh~! You bet we did!" Roxy smiled.

"Were you talking about me?"

"Maybe!"

I looked at the two of them, happily conversing as if I wasn't there. Then I finally realized. I'll never be good enough for him. Because I'm a guy. The shock of my own words hit home. I stood up abruptly, packed my bass.

"I gotta go." I mumbled.

"Wait, Zane, why? Is it that you don't like being around Roxy and I? I'm sorry if we-!"
I turned around and glared at Rhodes.

"You idiot!" I yelled at the top of my lungs before turning and leaving.

"Wait! Zane!" Rhodes called, trying to follow me, but Roxy grabbed his waist.

"Ro-Ro, don't worry about him, he'll be fine." Roxy's voice echoed down the hallway as I walked away. She then continued to speak.

"Maybe he just learned a little life lesson~!"
Plot: Zane, a stubborn 19 year old bassist, works at a small music store. Practically disowned by his very rich parents, Zane must now become self-reliant in life or succumb to the wrath of his very strict parents. But one day, 21 year old guitar player and vocalist Rhodes of the band Liquid Rage invites Zane to play bass for him. But being the bassist of an up and coming band isn't all its cracked up to be. Will Zane be able to support himself and stay in the band? Is there more to Rhodes than his gorgeous smile and a bubbly personality?
